Short description
Net fire coral (Millepora dichotoma) is a colonial hydrozoan organism resembling a branching yellow-brown coral with white tips. Touching the stinging cells (cnidocytes) causes a severe burn, similar to hot metal. The burn causes long-term irritation (1–2 weeks), and blisters and ulcers develop. Acropora is a stony scleractinian coral belonging to the class Anthozoa. Acropora are the fastest growing and most common hard corals and are keystone species for the formation of coral reefs.
