Short description
Hermit crabs have five pairs of legs. They use empty gastropod shells as shelter. Only three pairs of walking legs stick out of the shell. The first pair is in the form of claws and is used to plug the entrance to the shell. The fourth and fifth pairs of legs are less developed and serve to secure themselves in the shell.
