Short description
The coloration ranges from orange to greenish-blue and purple. The body is covered with numerous sharp spines up to 3 cm long. Venom glands are located at the base of the spines, making their stings extremely painful and causing serious poisoning even in humans. Typically, there are 12 to 19 rays, increasing with age (up to 23).
