Short description
The body is gray, with approximately eight dark gray vertical stripes. Each stripe has two to three orange or yellow vertical lines that break up into spots toward the ventral part of the body and on the anal fin. The head has two dark brown stripes, the first of which passes through the eye. The head and body are densely patterned with small, light yellow spots. The caudal fin is marked with pale blue spots. It has a sharp spike at the base of the tail. Zebrasoma desjardinii is a species that exhibits both solitary and group behavior, depending on age and conditions. They may gather in schools for communal feeding.
