Short description
This species has three main color patterns: a uniform dark brown, a mottled grayish-brown, and a gray background with a network of small polygonal markings. The fish can change the intensity of its color depending on its mood or environment. Gray stripes extend radially from the mouth on the head. A prominent white spot is present at the base of the second dorsal fin. The dorsal and anal fins are usually clear or yellowish.
