Short description
The body is silvery or golden, fading to white below, and covered with large, spiny scales. A row of narrow dark red or blackish stripes runs along the sides, a large, distinctive black spot on the anterior dorsal fin, which transitions into a wide reddish stripe running the entire fin, and white tips on the spines. Black spots appear on the cheeks and a wide reddish stripe appears on the gill cover.
