Short description
Males of this species are grayish-brown with an orange dorsal coloration, a yellowish transverse stripe on the side, and a pale gray head marked with a thin black stripe running through the eye. Males also have an iridescent body. The scales of the male's body are edged with a darker pigment. The mouth is unique in its ability to extend its jaws forward to a distance equal to half the body's length to catch small fish and crustaceans.
