Short description
Males (terminal stage) are more vibrant, with predominantly blue, green, and purple hues, with a single whitish vertical stripe and scales with a light border. Males may have a yellow stripe under the soft dorsal fin and a sickle-shaped tail with a yellow border.
Females and juveniles (infant stage) are reddish-brown, purple-brown, or gray in color. Scales often have pale or reddish edges, and light vertical stripes may be present on the body. The caudal fin ranges from truncated to slightly notched.
