Dusky parrotfish, Swarthy parrotfish male (Scarus niger)

   Males are dark green, almost black, or dark blue, with a red upper lip and dark bands around the mouth, with dark scale edges. The dark scale edges create a reticulated pattern. A key feature is a bright green or yellowish spot with a dark border above the eye. The dorsal fin is yellow-green or reddish. Unlike females, male Scarus niger appear greener and more contrasting.
