Short description
The body is silvery-gray, fading to silvery-white below, with numerous dark chevron stripes along the lateral line, crossing the lateral line. Each stripe is slanted in the upper half and nearly vertical in the lower half. The caudal fin is primarily blackish, lacking white tips. It is nocturnal, but is found in relatively large schools during the day.
