Short description
The coloration is brownish-white, with a white or silvery belly. The flanks have faint vertical stripes, and three dark saddle-shaped spots are characteristic just behind the dorsal and adipose fins. The adipose fin has a bright black spot. The dorsal, caudal, and pelvic fins have dark transverse stripes. The head is large and flattened. The mouth is wide, with small teeth protruding when closed.
