Short description
The shell is dark gray-brown or green on the outside, although white spots are often found throughout. The edges of the shell are black on the inside. The inner surface is covered with a thick layer of iridescent nacre. It secretes a dark pigment that produces pearls of dark shades—from gray and silver to deep black with green or purple highlights.
