Short description
The mantle color is highly variable, ranging from bright blue to brown. Mantles can be colored bright blue, bright green, gold and turquoise with various patterns. Adults develop a large shell that adheres to the substrate by its byssus, a tuft of long, tough filaments that protrude from a hole next to the hinge.
